The embassy or envoy you send to a power that matters doesnt just sit there being useless: your spy or assasin gets his information there (for example 1 turn in embassy to upgrade his chances of succes, improved chances rely on diplomatic successes of the envoy) this way you tie diplomacy and subterfuge acitivities together (like they've always been historically). Maybe it is a bit of a hassle to move them around, but it gives you the possibility to cut off diplomatic communications, you can isolate your enemy and in the best case scenario prevent him alligning himself with a local superpower!ДЇorgetting about who is where: agent list, hell, make a option where you see all diplomat icons flashing up on map and/or pressing issues (by that i mean, 'you have a diplomat in a region which has a traderoute available' and other such things) logistics of moving them around etc: just because you don't like it, doesnt mean other people wont use them. using them as watchtowers: Simply make diplomats so that they cant see anything armyrelated, or if they can, they cant even tell you the number of units in the army, they dont give you any usefull information about troop movement. With your idea of bringing them back combined with your 'embassy' idea would also make diplomats irrelevant as soon as you build an 'embassy' and they would sit there doing nothing for the rest of the game they would sit as watch towers and do nothing for the remainder of the game because the logistics of moving them round turn after turn to get to where they need to be and by that point its too late or you have forgotten what is id you wanted to do. Personally in Med II my diplomats would be used for the first 10-20 turns to explore the map and make trade agreements then i would not use them again. they were a handicap to diplomatic game play if anything. there have not been diplomats since empire total war that was release in 2009 and for good reason. some of your ideas may have merit but bringing back diplomats i feel is not one of them. Well im my mind that is totally a step in the wrong direction. I hope I explained it clear enough, English not being my first language and all that. With instant diplomacy you are stuck to deal with it, my idea should give a player more freedom and be creative on a diplomatic level. Yes you can assisinate or bribe their approaching diplomats, this is another addition to your options.
